On Tramping

Whilst it's sad that two people died tramping in the Tararua Ranges, it really does show the dangers of tramping without the right gear. I can't think of any excuse to not carry safety/emergency gear that stands up to it's life saving potential.

Going tramping? Take the right gear. Or else you might die. Simple.

I'm getting a little weary of hearing about people who die or have to be plucked out of the bush becauase they're ill prepared. Be smart, carry the gear. Tell people where you're going. Check the weather. Get people to update you on the weather if you possibly can - take radios or if cellphones work, make use of them. Take advice from people along the way. If someone says you're an idiot to keep going, listen to them. They might just save you from dying or losing a limb.

The advice is exactly the same for fishing, or diving, or skiing, heck even going outside in winter requires most of these considerations.

Supplies save lives. Heavy pack or body bag? Your choice.
